Looking for a personalised stay? Get in touch with us and we will help you.

At Shine, our Short-Term Respite (also known as Short-Term Accommodation, STA) offers flexible, fully-tailored support when you or your carer need a safe, supportive break. Under the NDIS guidelines, STA funding can be used for short-term stays away from your usual home for up to 14 days at a time (or up to 28 days per year) when your usual support network is temporarily unavailable, or when you’d like to develop new skills and engage in community activities. ourguidelines.ndis.gov.au+2ourguidelines.ndis.gov.au+2

At Shine, we customise every stay to your goals, whether it’s stepping into new experiences, building independence, or simply offering your regular carer a moment of respite. Your stay is all about you: your preferences, your pace, your support needs. From quiet, comfortable accommodation to purposeful activities, we partner with you to plan each detail.

Because we believe true respite is more than a break,  it’s an opportunity. With our experienced team and values-driven culture, we ensure the experience is high quality, inclusive, and centred on your independence and wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The main difference between Short-Term Accommodation/ respite and Supported Independent Living is the level of individual support provided. STA provides a short break and support services to help with daily living tasks, while SIL provides ongoing over-arching support and assistance to help individuals live independently, make new friends and learn new skills.

With short term accommodation, the primary focus is on providing a caring role in assistance with day-to-day tasks such as shopping, meal preparation, and social activities, while SIL offers more comprehensive support to help individuals learn and build the skills they need to live independently.

Additionally, Short Term Accommodation is designed as a short stay option, while SIL is intended to be a more long-term solution.

STA funding is sourced from the Core supports of your NDIS plan for eligible NDIS participants, after it has been developed with input from yourself, a family member/carer, and either a Support Coordinator or Plan Manager.

Shine SC adheres to the NDIS guidelines for expenses to ensure transparency and cost-effectiveness.

Shine SC will work with you and/or your representative to create a personalised package that aligns with your goals and requirements.

After this, we will provide you and/or your local area coordinator, and/or plan manager with a quote. Once the quote is approved, we will send you a service agreement.
